Closing Reception
A closing reception was held on the final night of the summit in Galerie Aube, filled with the artists, panelists, all the people who supported the Artists Summit, Kyoto.
Special Performance
After greetings by the supportors and a toast, while everyone was chatting away the room suddenly grew dark. Firecrackers went off in the core meeting room, and who should yell out but Kawachi Ondo. Professor MORIMURA Yasumasa, an artist, masterminded this event as a top secret special performance, gArt Kawachi Ondoh. Everyone was surprised at this sudden event, but was pleased to have this valuable opportunity.
gArt Kawachi Ondo: A top secret project at the Artists Summit, Kyotoh
Students all around stared in wonder and anticipation - gJust what is going on?!h On October 5, there was an advertisement about a top secret project relating to Artists Summit, Kyoto, to which around 30 students attended. The participating students spent one month after school or during their free time to practice for the secret event. They also steadily met amongst themselves and exchanged ideas and proposals with MORIMURA Yasumasa and KONNO Yuichi, and day by day it began to coalesce and materialize.
The day before at the full rehearsal was the first time everyone had a chance to meet each other. There were countless checks of the steps of the dancers, chorus, drummers, and chair stackers, and despite being only a half day rehearsal the moves and exhibition were changed dozens of times. However, with the skills honed by everyday practice and determination, the students slowly rose to the challenge.
In tandem with the passion of the actors, professional workers spent countless hours setting up and testing the lights, sound, and heavy equipment, working well into the wee hours of the performance day.
A few hours before the performance. Even though many of the students had never before been on stage, they were surprisingly calm and did everything perfectly. At the meeting after performance, Mr. Imano said to everyone, gThe play was 120% perfect. If we ever do this again, donft change a thing.h I still remember the looks of the students as smiles spread across their faces at hearing these words. Participating in the project became a part of a larger project for them, a gMy Projecth that is creating excitement in everyone who participated. These students will cherish everything they learned here, with each student walking away with something different. Itfll be exciting to learn just what that is.
